Minnesota
The State of Skates
Minnesota has long been called the land of 10,000 lakes. While our summers are beautiful, we are really known for our winters and the season of hockey. Minnesotans enjoy a lifestyle unlike any other state in the country, and part of that lifestyle includes spending time at the local ice rink almost every day.
Minnesota, sometimes called the 11th province of Canada, is unrivaled in its passion for hockey by any other state. Michigan, which ranks second in the nation, has nearly double the population of Minnesota and in 2014 had 4,000 fewer registered players for USA Hockey.
A further example of Minnesota’s passion for hockey is demonstrated at the high school level. The state high school hockey tournament continues to break record attendance at the Xcel Energy Center. The AA class championship game had over 21,000 fans attend in 2023.

Ice Arenas Provide Scale
With the typical Minnesota based Ice Rink facility seeing foot traffic averaging between 600,000 to 1,000,000 user visits per year, the Rinkside Advertising Network provides the scale that most advertisers dream of with an estimated 48+ million visitors per year.
The number of people who spent time in Rinkside’s Ice Arenas greatly surpassed the 4.2 million spectators who attend professional sports events each year in the state of Minnesota.
A Hard to Reach but Desirable Audience
Individuals who spend time in ice arenas are an attractive but hard to reach demographic. They represent high-income, busy families that invest a large portion of their personal time and money in activities that take place at the arena.
On average, a youth figure skater or ice hockey player makes four visits per week to their rink for practices, games, or competitions. Each of these visits lasts upwards of 1.5 to 2 hours. More often than not, parents or loved ones spend their time watching these practices or games from the stands, ultimately making themselves hard to reach through traditional advertising mediums.
Why Aggregating this Audience is a Challenge
Up until the launch of Rinkside, advertising in ice arenas was a difficult undertaking for brands. A brand manager would need to research facilities, negotiate individually with arena managers, and navigate any logistical issues while executing their marketing efforts.
To achieve any level of scale and reach, this process would need to be repeated over and over again to reach the desired coverage levels necessary to make a successful campaign.
Rinkside has solved this issue and can place multi-facility advertising campaigns for brands with a single phone call.
